These daytime closures of the U.S. 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville in Henderson County are to facilitate a detailed inspection of the bridge structure.
The U.S. 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville will be closed to all traffic between 9 a.m., and 2 p.m., on Wednesday and Thursday. This inspection is scheduled on a weather-permitting basis.
The daytime closure of the bridge is to allow the use of a UBIV- Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle to speed the inspection work. The width and weight of the UBIV will prohibit other traffic from crossing the bridge during the inspection process. Climbers will also be used to help expedite the inspection process.
There will be no marked detour. With U.S. 60 already closed for construction near the Stanley community in Daviess County, all through traffic between Henderson and Owensboro should self-detour via the Audubon Parkway.
The bridge is located at U.S. 60 mile point 19.3 in Henderson County. Also known as the Spottsville Bridge and the Richard W. Owen Memorial Bridge.
Approximately 3,000 vehicles cross the bridge in an average day. The U.S. 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville is 9 miles east of the U.S. 41 Cloverleaf at Henderson and about 6 miles west of the Henderson-Daviess County Line.
All Kentucky bridges get a detailed safety inspection every two years with long-span river and lake bridges getting an additional annual walk-through inspection.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is in the final planning stage for construction of a new bridge just downstream from the existing structure. The project is scheduled for bidding this year with construction of a new bridge expected to take about two years to complete.
