Wendell Foster, a local agency serving people with disabilities, is hosting its second half marathon on Saturday.

The event is presented by Owensboro Health.

The race is a strong economical contributor to Owensboro’s downtown restaurants, shops, and hotels by drawing nearly 1,000 athletes, along with their family and friends from across the U.S. Currently, two countries and 14 states are represented in the numbers.

The race will have an expo that is open to the public 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Owensboro Convention Center. The expo is where athletes can register for $85, pick up their race packets, visit vendor booths, and listen to Peter Kline, founder of Marathons with Meaning from noon to 4 p.m.

For athletes that cannot make the expo, they can still pick up their packet at the Owensboro Convention Center from 5:30-7 a.m. Saturday. There will not be race day registration.

The fast and flat course will start at Smothers Park and travel 13.1 miles through Owensboro’s beautiful streets, neighborhoods, and on the Green Belt.

Race director John Gleason said this event takes a strong community.

“From our 14-person committee to our 300 volunteers, it takes a team,” he said. “This is an exciting event for Wendell Foster and for Owensboro. We need Owensboro to come cheer on the runners and walkers.”
