Owensboro Symphony’s Concert on the Lawn returns Aug. 27 with theme ‘Adventure Under the Stars’

The Owensboro Symphony’s annual Concert on the Lawn is returning Aug. 27 with the theme  “Adventure Under the Stars.” This year’s event will feature Lauren Jelencovich performing selections from Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Enchanted. Highlights for the evening will include music from Mulan, Hook, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Aladdin.

The free concert, sponsored annually by U.S. Bank, will begin at 7 p.m. on the front lawn of Kentucky Wesleyan College (3000 Frederica Street). The community is encouraged to pack a picnic, put on comfortable clothes, grab their lawn chairs and blankets, and arrive early for family fun and activities beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“Concert on the Lawn has become an annual summer tradition and I hope everyone will join us for an ‘Adventure Under the Stars’ with the Owensboro Symphony,” said the Symphony Music Director Troy Quinn. “This year we are delighted to bring Lauren Jelencovich.” 

Jelencovich has garnered acclaim for her portrayals of opera and musical theater roles throughout the United States and abroad. SHe is currently on a world tour with Yanni as his featured vocalist. She is featured on his album Inspirato alongside artists such as Placido Domingo, Renee Fleming, Rolando Villazon and more.

Although the event is free to attend, the Symphony will offer seating options. A table, chairs, and dinner for 8 people can be reserved for $350; a table and eight chairs only costs $150. Individual meals (no seating) can be reserved for $25 a person. 

The meal will include fried chicken, home-style vegetables, deviled eggs, assorted desserts and tea/lemonade. Buffet meals will not be sold on the night of the event; they must be purchased in advance by calling the Symphony at 270-684-0661, extension 113. 

Reservations must be made prior to August 15, 2022. Those who reserve tables often participate in the table decorating contest. 

“Our theme this year is Adventure Under the Stars, so think pirates, princesses, and tall tales. We encourage our table hosts to reflect the theme however much or little they wish. It is really about having fun” said Symphony CEO Gwyn Payne.  

A winner will be chosen to receive two complimentary tickets to the Owensboro Symphony’s Dec. 10 Home for the Holiday’s concert.
