For the first time ever, the Owensboro Symphony will headline Friday After 5 when they bring back the “Summer Salute” on June 2. They will be joined by special guest Rockapella, most well-known for performing on and writing the theme show for the PBS show Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?

The Summer Salute will be held at 7 p.m. June 2 at McConnell Plaza.

“Summer Salute is a great opportunity for the whole community to enjoy the music of the Owensboro Symphony and we could not be happier to be performing at Friday After 5,” said Symphony CEO Gwyn Payne.

FA5 Executive Director Francine Marseille added, “We are honored to have the Owensboro Symphony as the headliner for the first time at Friday After 5. Working together to provide such a phenomenal experience for our community, as well as the thousands of visitors coming into town that night, will be an historic memory spoken of for many years to come.”

The male vocal group Rockapella achieved national television fame in the early ’90s on the hit PBS show Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? Since then, they have toured the globe and provided a funky powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans.

The current Rockapella lineup features Scott Leonard, high tenor; Jeff Thacher, vocal percussionist; Calvin Jones, tenor; Jose Rodriguez, tenor; and Bryant Vance, bass.

“Rockapella is such a talented group and so much fun,” said Troy Quinn, Owensboro Symphony music director. “I’m looking forward to performing a wide array of songs with them, from Shambala to Philadelphia Freedom and Rock the Boat.”

Summer Salute is a free community event made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Daviess County Fiscal Court along with additional support from the City of Owensboro and Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline. The community is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and find a spot on Atmos Amphitheater at McConnell Plaza to enjoy this family-friendly concert.

There will be an opportunity to upgrade the concert experience with VIP seating:

  • $1,000 – Conductor’s Circle will provide a VIP experience that includes a table for eight with dinner provided by Lure Seafood and Grille and table service for cash bar, 20% discount at the Hampton Inn and Suites Downtown Waterfront (subject to availability), access to private restrooms, and parking.
  • $500 – Reserved Seating includes table and chairs for eight.

Tables can be reserved by calling 270-684-0661 or visiting OwensboroSymphony.org.
