The Kentucky Orthopedic Rehabilitation Team, commonly referred to by its acronym KORT, opened in Owensboro in 2011. The practice is a subsidiary of Select Medical Corporation, with more than 60 clinics across the state.

KORT specializes in physical and occupational therapy and has two offices in Owensboro and one in Whitesville to serve the Daviess County community. The original office opened in 2011 and the second location, which offers more specialized services, opened in 2021.

“We treat any muscular or skeletal issues including shoulder, neck, and back pain. We want to help anyone in pain,” said market manager Jennifer Murphy Byrne, PT, DPT. “Our second location specializes in weight loss, cancer rehab, and men’s and women’s pelvic health. “

KORT offers vestibular rehab, sports medicine, fall prevention and balance, and post-covid rehab services. They also provide dry needling services, which Byrne said are effective for various issues, including headaches, back, neck, and hip pain.

The operation has grown exponentially over the past decade, expanding from one therapist and one office to seven therapists and three locations in Daviess County. Murphy attributes their growth and long-standing success to the community’s support and her quality team of employees.

“Owensboro and Daviess County have been wonderful, just amazing. Our local market has one of the highest percentages of direct access to physical therapy,” she said. “We have an amazing team dynamic and great culture. They are dedicated to providing the best one-on-one care specialized to each patient’s needs.”

Byrne emphasized that patients can come directly to KORT for services, typically without a physician’s order. She added that they can normally get new patients in within 24 to 48 hours.

“We know people are hurting, and we want to get them in as fast as possible,” she said. “We’ve grown by constantly teaching people we can do for them. You don’t have to have insurance to come to therapy.”

KORT finds joy in giving back to the community that’s done so much for them. They often sponsor races and most recently organized a fundraiser at Donato’s Pizza for the Senior Community Center of Owensboro and Daviess County.

“When you do the right thing for the right reason, great things happen – that’s our mantra,” Byrne said.
