The City of Owensboro is kicking off the holiday season with its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5 p.m. on November 22. This event marks the start of an expanded series of Hometown Christmas festivities throughout downtown Owensboro, aimed at creating fun events for families to enjoy the spirit of the season.

This year’s Hometown Christmas will include more festive lights and decorations, with new installations throughout McConnell Plaza and along West 2nd Street. The “Dancing Lights” display is returning to the riverfront, with synchronized lights along Veterans Boulevard, the Christmas tree, and the Blue Bridge twinkling to festive music every 15 minutes.

The unique Bourbon Barrel Christmas fixture — barrels stacked in the shape of a tree — will also return to McConnell Plaza.

In addition to the nightly light display, 19 events will take place throughout the holiday season including the Energy on Ice rink on the pier behind the Owensboro Convention Center, Breakfast with Santa,  the Holiday Stroll downtown, and the Hot Chocolate Hop.
