As previously reported, Burkes Outlet will be opening their new store location in Gateway Commons and closing their current location at Towne Square Mall. According to Burkes management, the new location, at 2516 Calumet Trace, will celebrate its grand opening on March 21 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Owensboro Times spoke with store manager Michelle Crick about the different discounts and prizes that would be offered to those attending the grand opening celebration.
“We are having some specials going on at the new location,” Crick said. “From [opening day] March 21 through March 24, the first 150 customers in line will get a scratch-off card. There will be one grand winner each of those first four days, and that person will receive a $250 shopping spree to the store.”
Aside from the chance at winning the $250 shopping spree, Crick said the other 149 who stand at the head of the line will receive scratch-off cards that contain either $5, $10 or $50 in-store shopping credits. The store will also be hosting a gift card treasure hunt.
“There are gift cards hidden throughout the store,” Crick said. “There are 20 of them that will be located around the store for each of the first four days. The gift cards hold up to a $20 value.”
On opening day, a prize wheel will also be available to customers, starting at 9 a.m. Crick said it’s more of an “early morning prize wheel,” so those who want the chance to win $5 or $10 gift cards, or a free tote bag, should arrive early to get a one-spin-per-customer chance at winning a prize.
Crick said Burke’s will be providing pizza at the store, as well as free giveaways to businesses who’ve donated products to the new store.
Burkes will be converting its layout to fit a much smaller space than it held at its previous location in Towne Square Mall. Crick said the store is cutting back by about 20,000 square feet, going from 38,000 to 18,000 square feet of space.
However, customers shouldn’t worry that Burkes won’t be providing the same amount of product, Crick said. The store will still offer the same amount of product, but with less walking distance between everything.
“You can implement the same product. There’s no change in the production unit. There’s just not as much floor space. It’s a lot easier to manage,” Crick said. “It’s amazing how much easier it is to reach customers across the store this way, and how much easier it is for customers to find what they’re looking for.”
The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony just before the store’s 9 a.m. grand opening, and Burkes will officially join the Chamber for the first time since coming to Owensboro.
