Jill Carrico has been painting since she was 20 years old. More than 30 years later, she has left her full-time job to become an entrepreneur painting the interior and exterior of houses.

For the past two she years, she has been building up a client base for Chick with a Brush, a home painting company.

“Business was picking up and I was working a full-time job. My husband told me I need to make a choice to either keep my full-time job or paint because we were both working 80 hours a week between our regular jobs and painting,” Carrico said. “I didn’t even give it a second thought, and I told my boss the next day I had made a decision to turn in my two weeks in and be a full-time painter.”

Carrico said the next hurdle was coming up with a quirky name.

“My husband and I would throw ideas around back and forth, and one day he called me and said ‘how about Chick With a Brush,’ and it was perfect,” Carrico said.

Chick with a Brush has two other full-time employees who Carrico said are instrumental in the success of the business.

“We couldn’t do this without Casey and my daughter, Samantha,” she said.

Carrico said most of her business comes from referrals and word-of-mouth advertising.

She encourages anyone who is interested in her services to check out their Facebook page where people can look at before and after pictures of their work.
