A 19-year-old from McLean County has opened a business for those wanting to kayak or canoe on Rough River. Yak Man Kayak Rental is located inside the Livermore Mercantile on Main Street, and the business can assist water sports enthusiasts with both rentals and land transportation.

Carter Riley, a McLean County High School graduate, has always loved kayaking. That led to his idea to help others join in on the fun.

“It has always been just a hobby that I did with friends and family,” he said. “The name Yak Man actually came from my sister. She would always ask to go yaking instead of asking to go kayaking.”

Riley currently has access to 15 single kayaks, one tandem kayak, and four canoes.

For someone that is renting from Yak Man, they would meet Riley in Livermore and he will shuttle them to the drop off point that is located close to Ohio County. They will then paddle down to Livermore.

“It is roughly a 2-4 hour paddle depending on the current and if you want to make stops and swim or just have fun on the water,” Riley said.

Currently all canoeing and kayaking will be done on Rough River.

Riley encourages everyone from beginners to children to give kayaking a try.

To book your adventure, text Riley at 270-499-4440. He is currently working on a website but has a Facebook page here that people can check for updates and new information.
