Owensboro’s location of the bargain store Gimme A $5 on KY 144 is one of four that the company is closing this month. The store opened in March 2021.
The company made the announcement Friday morning via Facebook. The company said some of their stores will be “evolving” and rebranded. Others, including the one in Owensboro, “are not able to support the upcoming transformation.”
The last day for the stores that are closing is June 23.

Dear Valued Customers,
As you all know, at our core, we are a business that thrives on innovation. Today, we want to share some important news with you about our journey and how that core value is guiding our way forward.
We are embarking on a journey of transformation, a rebranding of our retail stores that is designed to enhance the quality of our services and align with industry trends to best serve our customers for a long time to come. We’re excited to announce that several of our stores are evolving and will be rebranded into a new innovative and engaging shopping experience that we know you will love. These stores include Vonore, TN; Jackson, TN; Dalton, GA; Johnson City, TN; Millington, TN; Cookeville, TN; and Clarksville, TN.
We are looking forward to sharing our new retail business model when we unveil the concept on June 16th. We will have a grand opening of the rebranded stores slated for July 1st and will be celebrating by offering a 50% off storewide sale.
Unfortunately, some of our current store locations are not able to support the upcoming transformation, and stores located in Dickson, TN; Lebanon, TN; Pulaski, TN; Owensboro, KY; and Louisville, KY will be closing. While this news is saddening, it’s also an important step forward for us to focus our resources on delivering a superior shopping experience, with plans to explore new store openings soon.
The last operating days for the current store brands of Gimme A $5, Gimme A $5 Clothing, Half Priced Foods, and Half Priced Bargains will be June 23rd, giving us a week to prepare for the grand re-opening of all the newly rebranded stores.
Over the years, we’ve been privileged to serve you, and we’re deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us. As we embark on this new journey, we are committed to continuing to offer exceptional value and to remaining a vital part of your communities.

GA5 Discount Club loyalty points can be used at the Owensboro location until it closes, and they will also be able to be redeemed on our their upcoming new website. Gift cards for Gimme A $5, Gimme A $5 Clothing, Half Priced Foods, and Half Priced Bargains will still be honored at our new concept. You will need to bring in the old gift card and exchange it for a new one or you can use it before the stores close on June 23rd.
