Gas leak closes Burlew Blvd.

UPDATE 10:25 p.m. – Atmos has located the gas leak at a vacant building across the street from Keystone Farms Apartments. According to Kay Coomes, Public Affairs Manager for Atmos Energy, the meter at the building was off, but something around the tap was leaking. Once the leak is repaired Atmos will conduct another gas reading. When the all clear is given, occupants at Keystone Farms will be allowed to return to their residences. Coomes says this should happen in 30 to 45 minutes.


UPDATE 9:05 p.m. – According to Kay Coomes, Public Affairs Manager for Atmos Energy, 16 apartments at Keystone Farms Apartments have been evacuated due to a gas leak on Burlew Boulevard that crews have not yet located. Coomes said crews are not receiving any gas readings on the inside of the apartments. All readings have been found outside of the apartment complex, but Atmos is taking an abundance of caution with evacuations. According to Coomes, crews believe the leak to actually be across the street from the apartment complex. Coomes said OMU has shut off power, but was unaware of the reach of the shut off. The OMU status map indicates the power has been shut off across the street from Keystone Farms Apartments. Coomes said crews cannot estimate a how long it will take to isolate the leak and repair it.


ORIGINAL STORY – A gas leak has been reported on Burlew Boulevard between Old Hartford and New Hartford Road. Atmos, Owensboro Police Department and Owensboro Fire Department are on scene. Burlew Boulevard has been closed and there is not an estimate of when it will reopen. OPD has confirmed that the 900 block of Burlew Boulevard, which is Keystone Farms Apartments, is being evacuated.
