OPD: Officer dragged by vehicle, transported to OHRH

UPDATE (08/26/2019 – 3:11 a.m.):

According to Owensboro Police Department, at approximately 10:44 p.m. Sunday, officers responding to a drug complaint near the 800 block of Center Street observed “suspected drug activity” between multiple subjects including one subject inside a white passenger vehicle.

Officers attempted to make contact with the subject inside the vehicle and instructed him to exit. After the subject refused to exit the vehicle an officer opened the driver door and made an attempt to get the subject to exit the vehicle.

According to OPD, the subject “began fighting with the officer and accelerated at a high rate of speed, dragging the officer.” The subject in the vehicle then fled the scene and has not been located.

The officer was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

According to scanner traffic from Owensboro-Daviess County Central Dispatch and Owensboro Police Department, an OPD officer was struck by a vehicle at approximately 10:52 p.m. Sunday near the 800 block of Center Street. The vehicle fled the scene and was last seen going eastbound toward Breckenridge Street.

Police are looking for a silver or white Kia.

OPD did not respond for comment.
