The ninth annual Color Blast 5K is officially set to return Aug. 28.

The race, which is typically held in March to celebrate disability awareness month, was canceled in 2020. Even though it’s back for 2021, officials opted to move the event to later in the year due to COVID-19 concerns.

Color Blast 5K, title sponsored by Independence Bank, is hosted by Puzzle Pieces, Team Karlie, Green River Area Down Syndrome Association, and Dream Riders. These four organizations have partnered in the Color Blast since its inception. Funds raised from the event are divided among the four organizations and then a percentage is given back to WHAS Crusade for Children in Louisville.

“The Color Blast has become an annual trademark, not only for disability awareness and celebration, but it’s also a fun event for schools and families to attend that starts a conversation about disability awareness,” said Puzzle Pieces Executive Director Amanda Owen.

The race will start and end at Moreland Park in Owensboro.

The early registration sign-up fee is $25 and $15 for students. On Aug. 1, registration will go up to $35.
