Mark Pfeifer was officially hired as the new Owensboro city attorney Tuesday during a City Commission meeting. Pfeifer, who has years of experience in private practice, will step into the role beginning May 23.

Pfeifer will replace former City Attorney Steve Lynn, who retired from the position at the end of March.

City Manager Nate Pagan said Pfeifer was a good fit for the role based on his years of experience and “diverse law background.”

“That’s what we were looking for,” Pagan said.

A native of Owensboro, Pfeifer currently practices law at Jacobs & Pfeifer, PSC. He attended Owensboro Catholic High School before graduating from the University of Indiana and Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1995.

Pfeifer is a member of both the Daviess County and Kentucky Bar Associations.

Pagan said Pfeifer will come into the job with some government law experience under his belt.

“He’s done business law, agreements, contracts, real estate work for the City,” Pagan said. “He’s familiar with the property maintenance codes and regulations.”

Pfeifer is also on the Green River Area Down Syndrome Association board of directors.
