Owensboro’s fire and police departments are investigating a fire that resulted in the total loss of a pull-behind camper and siding damage to two homes in the 800 block of George Street on Saturday. No injuries were reported.

OFD Battalion Chief Jason Pickrell said they got the call at 11:33 a.m. and the fire was put out within 15-20 minutes.

Pickrell said when firefighters left Station 1 (512 W. 9th St.), they saw “heavy black smoke from that far off so I just went ahead and called for another alarm.”

Pickrell said they haven’t determined why the fire started. He said they’re conducting the normal investigation process that is taken with any fire that has an undetermined cause.

The siding from two homes was melted due to heat, but Pickrell said other than that the structures seem to be OK.

OFD had three fired engines, one ladder, one rescue company, and command all on scene. Pickrell said four OPD units and one AMR ambulance also responded.
