Highway 56 was closed for several hours this morning after a farm truck hauling live chickens overturned near Mulligan Road, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. The driver had minor injuries, and the surviving chickens were transported to another truck.
Daviess County Sheriff Brad Youngman said the incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. Monday. Youngman said one of the deputies on scene was told the driver ran off the road because an oncoming vehicle failed to yield, and the driver of the farm truck swerved to avoid a collision. Youngman said DCSO has not located the alleged oncoming vehicle at this time.
The truck flipped onto its side upon leaving the roadway. The driver was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The roadway was reopened around 10:30 a.m.
The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.
