Incumbents Decker, Edge, Doyal retain seats on OPS board

Incumbents Melissa Decker, Jeremy Edge, and Leigh Rhoads Doyal all maintained their seats on the Owensboro Public Schools Board of Education. 

The trio easily held off challengers Tyler Sagardoy and Kenny Riley.

Decker received the most votes with 4,532 and will serve a third term.

“It is humbling to know that people trust me with something is important as our children’s education, and I am grateful for every single vote,” she said. “I am honored to be able to continue serving our community along with Jeremy Edge and Leigh Rhoads Doyal.”

Edge earned 4,427 votes and will also serve a third term.

“I just want to thank the voters in the city school district,” he said. “I’m humbled and honored to be reelected for a 3rd term. I feel like folks appreciate the job we’re doing to move OPS forward and I was extremely happy to see that Daviess County and all of Kentucky voted to support public schools.”

Doyal will serve a second term after garnering 4,097 votes. 

“I’m so grateful to the voters in the OPS district who voted for me in this election and who believed in me enough to allow me to serve our community’s students for another 4 years,” she said. “It is a real privilege to get to continue doing this work. I look forward to working to strengthen the relationship between OPS and our Owensboro community, as well as always looking to improve academic outcomes for ALL of our students.”

Kenny Riley finished fourth in the race with 3,790 votes and Tyler Sagaradoy placed fifth with 2,383.
