A death investigation has been opened after a body “in the advanced stages of decomposition” was found on the bank of the Ohio River on Wednesday, according to the Owensboro Police Department.
According to OPD, at approximately 4:30 p.m. on October 30, patrol officers responded to English Park for an unrelated call for service. While completing this call, a man walking his dog approached the officers and told them he had found a body along the river bank nearby, according to a release.
Officers located a deceased male individual in a nearby wooded area. Detectives with the Owensboro Police Criminal Investigation Division and the Daviess County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to begin a death investigation.
“When the body was located, the body was in the advanced stages of decomposition and investigators are attempting to determine further details about the individual,” according to OPD.
OPD said foul play is not suspected at this time. The identity of the person found remains unknown.
The body has been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and the results are pending.
