Over my decade in education, both as a teacher and now as an Assistant Principal at Apollo High School, I have also served as a head coach for nine seasons (baseball and girls’ soccer, respectively). I write as an invested member of our community, particularly the youth of Daviess County, to publicly share my support of Thomas (Tom) Vallandingham for Daviess Family Court Judge.

I knew of Tom when I was a child growing up in Owensboro — I remember him from youth sports. I have also known Tom for most of my adult life as a soccer and baseball official, a regular member of the church my wife and I attend, and as a friend.

The nature of local high school sports creates a fairly tight-knit community among coaches, players, and officials. I always enjoyed when I saw Tom was slated to officiate a soccer match or baseball game. I trust all officials to do a good job, but Tom always goes above and beyond to build relationships with the youth whom he officiates. He is complimentary, encouraging, and patient with our young people. In short, his disposition helps create an environment wherein young athletes can grow and mature not only athletically, but their personally as well.

My wife and I have attended Owensboro Christian Church since moving back to Owensboro after college. I see Tom and his wife there nearly every weekend. Furthermore, while I cannot say that Tom and I have ever been a part of the same Bible study at church, I know that he has led a Bible study for young adults at our church in years past.

When I think about what I want from a Family Court Judge, such words as trust, empathy, integrity, honesty, and commitment come to mind. I want someone who knows young people, someone who chooses to spend time with youth. While I am not suggesting any other candidate does not possess these traits, I personally know that Tom Vallandingham embodies each and every one of these traits. Beyond being qualified by trade — Tom is a Family Court attorney in Owensboro — Tom’s temperament is perfect for Daviess Family Court Judge. He has dedicated his professional life to the betterment of our community and chooses to spend his free time giving back to our community. He is a man of Owensboro. He is a man of integrity. He is a man of God who commits himself to living a Godly life. As an invested member of our community, these are traits I demand of our elected officials; furthermore, these are traits and values I know to be the makeup of Tom. For these reasons, it is with joy and hope that I share my support of Thomas Vallandingham for the office of Daviess Family Court Judge.
