After falling to Central Hardin at home last week, the Eagles are looking for their first win of the season on the road against North Hardin.
Apollo is coming off of a tough 51-20 loss in week three, where turnovers and defensive miscues came back to bite them. Senior quarterback Christian Combs threw for 235 passing yards and two touchdowns in the game on 23-37 passing, but also had two interceptions.
Defensively junior Eli Masterson was able to give the Eagles an interception on the night, but as a team they allowed over 40 points for the third straight week. Going into this week Apollo Head Coach John Edge wants to see improvement to help develop his team, as they are looking for a big road win.
“North Hardin is a big team that has several D1 athletes,” Edge said. “We played them last year at home and won 10-7 with Bowman kicking a field goal to win. We can beat these guys if we are disciplined enough to do the little things right. We have to continue to get better at those things.”
In order to do so, Edge said that they have to do the little things right. This includes taking advantage of their opponent’s mistakes, winning field position and more. Turnovers will also be a key factor in deciding the winner on Friday, especially against a defense that has a pair of players with offers from the University of Kentucky.
“Jayden Thorpe is their QB and he’s a very good runner,” Edge said. “We have to contain him. They also have a very good defensive end in Darius WIley and defensive tackle Demoni Taylor.”
Edge wants to see his team play hard and compete in their second road test of the season, hoping to see improvement along with a win when they take the field at 8 p.m. on Friday.
