Daviess County remains unblemished in district play, sweeps the Lady Devils

The Lady Panthers volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss to Bowling Green on Tuesday, grabbing a sweep of Owensboro on the road for a 3-0 district win to open up the week.

The Lady Devils did their best to keep Daviess County on its toes throughout the match, but ultimately fell 25-20, 25-19, 27-25. Senior Josie Newcom led the way offensively, grabbing 14 of the team’s 35 kills.

Seniors Lexi Owen (23) and Sydney Mills (10) combined to lead the offense with 33 of the team’s 34 assists, while seniors Taylor Roberts and Newcom led the defense with six and five digs.

Senior Brooklyn Williams and sophomore Ava Fincher led the way offensively for the Lady Devils, tallying nine and eight kills respectively. Fincher was also second on the team in assists with 11, while senior Mia Covington led the way with 15.

The Lady Panthers improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in district play with the win, now taking a day off before a road matchup with Breckinridge County at 7 p.m. on Thursday. 

Meanwhile, Owensboro dropped its fifth straight to sit at 4-8 overall and 0-3 in district play, going into a day break before hitting the road to Madisonville-North Hopkins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
