The Clothesline Consignment Store on Scherm Road is expanding with a short move next door this spring.

Owner Kim Preston said this move will be vastly beneficial for the business, as they will have 10,000 square feet of service space in the former Rite Aid next to their current location at 1737 Scherm Road.

“It’s gonna be amazing. It’s going to allow us to expand stuff that I’ve had to refuse customers on, mostly because I just don’t have the room,” Preston said.

In the new location, Preston said she hopes to carry more furniture in addition to all the clothing and accessories she already sells.

Currently, their storage space is full and the business takes items on a rotation period to allow them to sell their current stock first.

April 15 will be the last day to place items up for consignment before the move.

Preston said the setup will take about 60 days before they are able to officially open in the new location. She has her husband Darrell Preston working on the setup and prep work over there.

Darrell said he expects to install shelving, dressing rooms, areas for the home, kitchen and furniture sections, storage area and more.

Kim still plans to keep her same commission rates of a 50/50 split on items and will extend that to furniture as well.

The move also comes after a successful year during the pandemic, with many customers turning to The Clothesline for their retail therapy. She also obtained more clients placing their items for sale.

Preston said the goal is to be operational in the new space by June 1, and they will be closed for a week in May to get items moved over.
