Local track teams fare well at Valor Oil Classic at DCHS

Local track and field teams battled the cold and rain at Reid Stadium to earn some top performances heading into spring break. 

Daviess County won the boys’ side with 191.5 points, followed by Owensboro in second with 145. Apollo finished fourth with 59 points. 

Henderson County barely outscored Owensboro in the girls’ division 159 to 145. Daviess County finished third with 79 points, while Apollo finished in fourth placevwith 71. 

The Red Devils dominated most sprint events, with Reece Carroll finishing second in the 100M dash, followed by teammate Maurice Morman. Bryson Parm and Carter Hamilton from Daviess County finished fifth and seventh, respectively. 

Owensboro’s Khalil Rodgers took second in the 200M dash, followed by a pair of panthers in Wyatt Pierce and Narquise Sneed. Carroll grabbed the victory in the 400, while teammate Javius Taylor took third. 

The 800M run was dominated by locals, with Daviess’s Nolan Kurz taking first, followed by Apollo’s Thomas Ashby and Owensboro’s Adrien Askins and Francisco Parra. Josh Tomas took second in the 1600, with Askins and Parra placing third and fourth. 

The 3200 was all Daviess County as Bryson McGary, and Justin Shelton laid claim to first and second.

Eli Early won the 110M hurdles for the Red Devils, followed by Daviess’s Collin Jones in second. Jones also placed third in the 300M hurdles. 

Owensboro won all three sprint relays, while Daviess County finished second and claimed the 3200M relay. 

Ethan Pendleton won the HJ for the Red Devils, followed by Phelps and McCampbell for Daviess County. The Panthers’ Tyson Sherron won the pole vault.

Owensboro’s Maurice Morman won the long jump, followed by Max Dees and Collin Jones of Daviess County. Dees and Phelps took first and second in the triple jump. 

Zane Biever won the shot put for Owensboro and placed second in the discus throw. 

Apollo jumped out to an early lead in the girls’ division, with Carlie Murphy and Taraya Thompson taking second and third in the 100M dash. Owensboro’s Keeli Hanley and Natalia Davis earned first and third place in the 200M dash. 

Another pair of Lady Devils, Keeli Hanley and Maya Joska, finished second and third in the 400M dash. Apollo’s Ahmira Pickett and Adyson Mattingly took third and fourth in the 800M run. 

Daviess County’s Lucy Spaw and Blakely Greer took 1-2 honors in the 1600M run, while Spaw added a second victory in the 3200, followed by teammate Sally Tidwell. 

Owensboro’s Jasmine Buck earned third in the 100M hurdles and first in the 300M hurdles. 

Apollo placed second in the 4x100M relay, while Owensboro took second in the 4x200M relay. Owensboro won the 4x400M relay, and Daviess County won the 4x800M relay. 

Owensboro’s Chandler Worth finished third in the high jump, while Askiyah Hughes and Macey Kahn finished second and third in the pole vault. 

Worth also finished second in the long jump, followed by Apollo’s Emily Bertke. Worth continued to exert her value for the Lady Devils, adding first-place honors in the triple jump. 

Owensboro’s Trinity Hogg won the shot put and placed third in the discus throw, while Apollo’s Mary Ann Lions took first in the discus.
