Pitching by committee on Saturday, Trinity closed out the week with a no-hit win of 7-0 against the Owensboro Knights.
The Raiders took control of the game right away, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to an RBI double from junior Gavin Howard. Two innings later it was Howard who doubled again to plate a run, followed by an RBI groundout from junior Nathan Hernandez to make it 3-0 going into the fourth.
And while Trinity’s bats continued to pile on the runs—scoring four over the next three innings—its pitching staff was just as sharp.
Howard had gotten the start, walking one and striking out four in the first two innings. Hernandez and freshman Carter Crisp had identical stat lines—as Crisp was the only one to not record a walk—sending the Knights into the seventh hitless.
It was there that junior Landon Huff tossed his only inning of the night, allowing no hits and walking one, while striking out two to secure the no-hitter and the 7-0 victory.
Howard led the way at the plate with two RBIs, while Hernandez, and freshmen Crisp, Hayden Aull, Steven James and Connor Hatfield all had one each.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak, as Trinity moves to 2-7 going into a weeklong break before its matchup with Grayson County at 5:30 p.m. on April 18.
