The Lady Panthers offensive struggles continued in a tough loss on Friday, while Apollo bounced back from a blowout loss with a blowout win of their own again with Breckinridge County.
Daviess County vs. Greenwood
Coming off of a tough district loss to Apollo on Thursday, Daviess County struggled to put offense together once again and fell to Greenwood 3-0 on Friday.
The Lady Gators took advantage of a leadoff walk to start the game, getting a two-out double from senior Josi Morrison. This gave Greenwood a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.
Junior Jessie Daniels gave the Lady Panthers their first hit of the game in the bottom of the second, but both teams went scoreless over the course of the second, third and fourth inning.
It wasn’t until the top of the fifth that Greenwood found a way to crack the books once again, getting a two-run homer from Morrison to take a 3-0 lead. This was the dagger, as Daviess County was held to three hits on the day and ultimately lost 3-0.
Despite taking the loss, junior Raylee Roby had a solid day in the circle. She allowed three runs on six hits, walking five while striking out 12. Junior Kayden Murray was in charge for the Lady Gators, allowing just three hits while striking out 14 on the day.
The Lady Panthers have only lost three games this season, but all three have resulted in a shutout loss. Daviess County now sits at 8-3 overall, heading into a noon game against Jasper on Saturday.
Apollo vs. Breckinridge County
While getting a plethora of offense throughout the game, junior Emmie Bullington threw her second shutout of the week en route to a 15-0 E-gals win over Breckinridge County.
The E-gals took control of the game early, getting a one-run double from junior Morgan Julian and a two-run home run to left field from junior K’Asia Palmer to take a 3-0 lead into the second.
Apollo added three more in the bottom of the second, as Palmer connected for two more RBIs with a single to center and then an error helped them grab a 6-0 lead going into the third. And with plenty of run support, Bullington was in control of the game from the circle.
Bullington had held Breckinridge County hitless in the first two innings of the day, as a leadoff double in the third gave them their first hit. Nothing came of the extra-base hit and after the E-gals grabbed five runs in the bottom of the third, Bullington shut them down once again.
This allowed Apollo to grab four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, securing the 15-0 win in five innings on Friday. Bullington gave up two hits in the win, not allowing a run or walk, while striking out five.
Palmer led the way offensively with five RBIs, Julian chipped in three, Bullington had two and junior Morgan Frizell had one. Julian, Bullington and Palmer all had two hits each.
Apollo moves to 7-6 overall with the win and will get right back to action on Saturday, as they have a district matchup with Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
