Scoring in every inning except the fifth, the E-gals offense was on fire Saturday as they defeated Owensboro 8-0 in a district showdown.
Sophomore Mallory Velotta opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first, sending a solo shot over the left field wall. An inning later Apollo’s lead grew to 2-0, scoring because of an error on a line drive from senior Courtney Hagan.
Meanwhile, the Lady Devils couldn’t figure out junior Emmie Bullington, getting their first hit of the day in the top of the third.
But the fireworks continued for the E-gals, getting a two-run home run for eighth grader Arianna Ramirez to go up 4-0.
The outpouring of offense didn’t stop there, as Apollo grabbed three more runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a home run from junior K’Asia Palmer.
After the E-gals grabbed another run in the bottom of the sixth, it was Palmer who headed to the circle for the final inning of the game. Allowing just one hit, Palmer closed the door on a 8-0 shutout win over Owensboro.
Bullington followed her shutout on Friday with another great outing, allowing no runs on four hits, walking one and striking out three. Senior Brooklyn Keller and freshman Kirsten Tindle didn’t have the same luck, allowing eight runs—four earned—on seven hits.
Palmer led the way offensively for Apollo with three RBIs, Ramirez chipped in two and Velotta added one.
The Lady Devils fall to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in district play, as they will look to bounce back in a road matchup with Trinity (Whitesville) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the E-gals move to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in district play, as they will try to win their third straight when they take on Grayson County at 6 p.m. on the road Monday.
