Burns Elementary School will host their second Champions for Kids event from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Friday, with the money raised going to the Norton Children’s Heart Institute. Families are invited to attend for the total reveal after 5:05 p.m.

The students dedicate their time during the event to the kids and families who benefit from Norton Children’s Hospital. BES students will participate in a variety of activities and games, spending time making artwork for the patients at Norton’s and completing a service project.

“Our 2019 Champions event was more successful than we ever imagined,” said Larkin Gray, BES interventionist and Champion for Kids sponsor. “Raising over $7,000 that year was amazing. We received so much support from our BES families who have been positively impacted by this organization and continue to hear stories about their experiences with the hospital.”

Gray said the school had planned to host this event in 2020, but plans were canceled due to the pandemic.

“Our hope is to bring back Champions year after year at Burns and continue the tradition of giving back,” Gray said. “We want the students to have fun and make a difference at the same time. By playing games but also making something for the children at Norton’s, they learn valuable lessons about small ways they can positively impact other kids.”

The Champions for Kids event will include a $10 registration fee, which goes toward a BES Champion for Kids T-shirt and a donation.

“At BES, we are always looking for ways to help others,” Gray said. “This is one small way the Burns staff, students and families can make a big impact.”
