DCSO: Man arrested following foot pursuit, subject threw pistol over fence

A 21-year-old Henderson man was arrested Thursday after he attempted to flee police on foot and threw a pistol over a fence during the pursuit, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. 

William Beard was arrested by DCSO for the incident and is lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center. 

According to a release, at approximately 11 a.m. Thursday a DCSO deputy was sitting stationary on Venable Avenue completing paperwork when he observed a black Dodge Charger turn from West 9th Street onto Venable Avenue at a high rate of speed and spinning its tires. According to the deputy, the vehicle spun its tires again while turning into a driveway on Venable Avenue. 

According to DCSO, the deputy conducted a traffic stop and the driver (identified later as Beard) ran from the vehicle. While in the foot pursuit, the deputy observed Beard throw a pistol over a wooden fence, according to DCSO. 

Per the release, an Owensboro Police Department officer observed Beard at West 11th Street and Emerson Court, where Beard was arrested. The pistol that was thrown was located. 

DCSO charged Beard with the following:

  • Reckless driving 
  • Fleeing/evading police, first degree (on foot)
  • Tampering with physical evidence 
  • Wanton endangerment, first degree
  • Resisting arrest 
  • Operating vehicle with expired operators license 
  • No registration plates 
  • No registration receipt

The Kentucky State Police also served five unrelated arrest warrants on Beard.
