Update: OFD investigating after explosion, fire on Carter Road Saturday night

Update: According to a Facebook post from OFD, “At 8:57 p.m. July 30 OFD units were dispatched to reports of an explosion in the 2300 block of Carter Road. Units arrived to find a single-story apartment building with four units and a laundry on fire with flames shooting through the roof down the length of the building. Thanks to the help of a passerby several residents were evacuating before first responders even arrived. An aggressive fire attack along with primary search then took place. At least four residents were transported by EMS for various injuries. Cause is under investigation.”

Several agencies have been working the scene of a large fire on Carter Road for more than an hour. The fire appears contained, but the area is still blocked off.

Carter Road is currently closed from Bittel Road to Middleground/Barron Drive.

No other information is available from officials at this time.

Agencies responding include the Owensboro Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, Owensboro Municipal Utilities, Kentucky State Police, City of Owensboro Public Works, and Atmos Energy.
