The Green Valley Beekeepers Association is hosting an educational event next month for anyone interested in learning to be a beekeeper. It will feature programs presented by local beekeeping and honey experts, covering subjects from starting off as a beekeeper, to treating bee diseases and pests, and preparing hives for the winter.
The event will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The event will feature vendors, raffles, and door prizes. Green Valley Beekeeper Association members will be on site to answer questions and assist anyone wishing to learn more.

The Green Valley Beekeepers Association, formed in 1962, is a nonprofit that serves Daviess, Hancock, McLean and other counties in Kentucky for the purpose of promoting the avocation and vocation of beekeeping. They share ideas and techniques through educational programs, mentoring new beekeepers, and providing the opportunity for camaraderie among members with mutual interests.
Their membership consists of all levels of beekeepers from beginners to advanced commercial operators.
Anyone interested in becoming a beekeeper or wanting to learn how to get started is encouraged attend one of the GVBA meetings, which are held on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Daviess County Cooperative Extension Service’s classroom at 4800A New Hartford Road.
Current membership dues of GVBA are $15 per household annually.
