Raelyn Nelson, the granddaughter of famed country-folk icon Willie Nelson, is coming to Owensboro next month to headline the 2022 Let’s Flamingle Concert. The event is hosted by Flamingos for Amber, a local nonprofit assisting people with debilitating illnesses or injuries.

The concert will be held on Sept. 17 at the Convention Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., with Insulated taking the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Nelson. Tickets are available at owensborotickets.com for $35 each or a table of eight for $320.

The event organizers – Teddy and Althe Hatfield – described Nelson’s music as rock-a-billy and country.

“We haven’t been able to do the event the last couple of years because of the pandemic, so we’re happy to bring it back,” Teddy said. “We’ve only had local bands, but we were able to get in contact with Raelyn Nelson and put together our biggest show yet.”

The Hatfields formed Flamingos for Amber in memory of their daughter who died in March 2017. Althe said Amber battled a rare disease for 14 years.

“Amber was always thinking of others, even in the hospital,” Althe said. “After she passed, we decided we would start helping people with debilitating illnesses or injuries, along with their caregivers.”

The nonprofit has assisted its clients with more than 55,000 miles of travel. They also help families with everything from picking up mail and groceries to hotel stays, boarding animals, and everything in between.

“Our goal is to allow individuals and their families to focus solely on getting better,” Althe said.

Fast Lane Auto Repair and the Fraternal Order of Eagles are the event’s presenting sponsors.
