With his high school career behind him, Owensboro’s very own Amari Robinson-Wales will begin his collegiate basketball career in the fall after signing with Southeastern Illinois College.
“To be honest it feels good to finally know where I’ll be playing next season because before I had decided I was thinking about it all day everyday,” Robinson-Wales said. So it feels good.”
Robinson-Wales is coming off of a strong senior season, in which he helped the Red Devils grab a ninth district championship and a 22-8 overall record. He averaged 19.6 PPG on a 55.4% shooting clip, while shooting 47.1% from three and grabbing 5.2 rebounds per game.
The former Owensboro guard thoroughly enjoyed his time with the Red Devils, saying that he will miss his teammates and coaches more than anything. However, Robinson-Wales is looking forward to taking the next step in his athletic and academic career—as he will be majoring in business—especially because he’s joining a program he feels has the players best interests on and off the court at heart.
“One of the reasons I decided to go to this school is because they’ve shown way more interest in me than the other school that I was in contact with,” Robinson-Wales said. “What stands out is that they care about every single one of the athletes’ futures on and off the court.”
SIC Falcons Head Coach Sam Swinford said he is excited to welcome the athletic guard to campus, knowing that the team is getting someone who will lead by example with his effort day in and day out.
“Throughout the recruiting process it was clear that Amari checked every box of what we pride ourselves on within our program,” Swinford said. “His stats and (high school) career spoke for itself, but his work ethic, character, and desire to get better every day stood out. I am excited to see the impact that he has while he’s here and where this takes him.”
