Delphus "Del" Owen Jeffries

December 25, 1957 - September 10, 2022

Delphus “Del” Owen Jeffries, age 64 of Garfield, KY passed away September 10, 2022 at Breckinridge Health, Inc. in Hardinsburg, KY. Del suffered from complications of a rare and progressive neurodegenerative condition, Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD), of which he was clinically diagnosed in 2013 by Mayo Clinic. He handled the diagnosis with dignity, strength and grace, striving to make the best of each day with a positive attitude and a smile, serving as an inspiration for all those around him.

Del was born in Hardinsburg, KY on December 25, 1957, the son of the late Harry Edward Jeffries, Jr. and Jeanette Davis Jeffries.

Del accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized in 2014 at Rough River Lake.

In 2004, Del retired from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet as Breckinridge County’s Maintenance Superintendent. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, traveling, camping, music and time spent with his horses. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. His greatest joys were his mom, wife, daughters and grandchildren. He was most proud of the accomplishments of his daughters and grandchildren and supported them in every way. He will be remembered forever for his bright smile, beautiful blue eyes, infectious love, sense of humor, and selfless heart.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, loving wife and devoted caretaker, Tayce Diehl Jeffries, of 44 years.

Eight grandchildren: Jared and Delaney Harned of Garfield, KY; Elise, Owen and Emmett Dinh of Lexington, KY; Reagan, Ramsey and Redford Reynolds of Garfield, KY

Mother: Jeanette Davis Jeffries of Garfield, KY

One brother: LeeGale (Shelly) Jeffries of Garfield, KY

Aunts and uncles: Virginia Jeffries of Hardinsburg, KY; Margaret (Norman) Pollock of Raymond, KY; Reba (Leo) Pickett of Ponte Verda Beach, FL; Donnie Davis and Troy Davis of Garfield, KY

Del is preceded in death by his father, Harry Edward Jeffries, Jr.; his grandparents, Harry Edward, Sr. and Alma Decker Jeffries and D O and Irene Davis; his father-in-law, William Diehl and mother-in-law Reba Diehl.

In line with Del’s selfless and giving heart, the family has arranged for him to be an organ donor for Mayo Clinic Cure PSP Brain Bank in Jacksonville, FL to aid in the research of neurodegenerative conditions.

Funeral services will be held at Garfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 11 AM with burial in the Ivy Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, 4-8 PM and Tuesday after 8:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Del’s name to Breckinridge Health Foundation or A Pocketful of Hope.
