Audrey Elizabeth (Abell) Porter

September 6, 1931 - October 2, 2022

Audrey Elizabeth (Abell) Porter, 91, of Owensboro and had lived in Soldotna, Alaska and Maceo died October 2, 2022 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital due to Covid complications. She was born September 6, 1931 in Maceo to the late Harry Raymond Abell & Elizabeth Russell Nash Abell. She graduated from Daviess County High School in 1950. Audrey married Ralph James Keith Porter on September 15, 1950 at Maceo, Kentucky. She moved to Alaska with her husband and three older children in 1955. Homesteaded on the Kenai River and had four more children. She cleaned houses, worked at the local hospital in the kitchen, and worked as a grocery clerk for a local grocery store. She helped her husband and family build and run a fishing and hunting lodge at Lake Clark for several years, then they set up a 200 spot campground on their homestead on the Kenai River and ran it till the fall of 1992.

She was involved with local school PTA, Lion’s Club of Soldotna, was active and held many leadership roles in her church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint). She was a Council Women for the City of Soldotna for three years.

She loved to quilt and sew clothes for her children. She was an excellent cook and baker. Audrey loved to spend time with her family, walking on the beach, camping, fishing, canning fish and vegetables from the family garden, making jelly and jams, reading, playing board and card games.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph James Keith Porter; father, Harry Raymond Abell; mother, Elizabeth Russell Nash Abell; sisters, Mary E. Adam and Virginia D. Wheadon; brothers, Joseph Leroy Abell and Elzie Raymond Abell; and son-in-law, William (Bill) Banta.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Ann Banta (Owensboro, KY), Cinde Jean Porter (Kenai, Alaska), Jayne Lynn Porter (Owensboro, KY), Caffy Marie Stonebraker and her husband Kevin (Denver, CO), Debra Darlene Stith and her husband Rayman (Rusty) (Fairbanks, AK), Beverly Susann Couch and her husband Frank “Duke” (Mesquite, NV); son; James Craig Porter and his wife Karen (Canyon Lake, TX); cousins, Lloyd and Helen Nash (Philpot, KY); grandchildren; great- grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation or services per Audrey’s wishes. James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of her arrangements.

The family asked in lieu of flower to please donate to one of the following in memory of Audrey Porter; Heart Association, Diabetes Research or Alzheimer’s Research.
