Daviess County’s golfer Claire Reynolds had her season come to a close last weekend at state, tying for 26th and leaving with fuel to improve her game.

This was Reynolds second straight trip to state, posting an 84 on day one. She followed this up with an 82 on day two for an overall score of 166 (+22), placing her just inside the top 30 in a field of 80.

Despite the end result, Reynolds had aspirations of finishing much higher. However, the freshman golfer was able to take some positives away from the experience, while recognizing her strengths and weaknesses in the respective state rounds.

“I was disappointed I didn’t reach my goal of a top-10 finish, but I did move up 13 spots from last year so I was happy about that,” Reynolds said. “I was consistent with my driver. My second shot wasn’t as good as it had been during the season.”

Reynolds went on to add that the Bowling Green Country Club course poses a number of challenges, saying that you have to play distance almost perfectly or else you can put yourself in some bad spots before facing fast greens.

The Lady Panther said that while she didn’t get the result she wanted at state, she was happy with the season as a whole and proud of her ability to improve her average score by seven shots.

Reynolds aims to improve on being more consistent overall and keeping the big numbers off of the scorecard while playing in the offseason. She intends to play in tournaments, and work on her swing in the offseason—including getting in the gym to increase swing speed—all in order to help her take her game to the next level.
