The annual “Silver Bells” project is back, with the goal to collect enough items to fill gift bags for approximately 250 residents in local personal care homes. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 12.
The Green River Area Development District participates annually in the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Silver Bells project for residents of personal care homes, collecting items to deliver to residents living in personal care homes located in the seven-county area at Christmas time.
Many of the individuals residing in these personal care homes take part in the state supplementation program and only retain up to $60 per month of personal spending money.
Suggested donation items for the bags include:
- canned soft drinks
- chips
- lip balm
- tissues
- individual drink packets
- socks
- snack crackers
- gloves
- snack cakes
- puzzle books
- hand lotion
- candy
Donations may be dropped off at the GRADD office (300 Gradd Way) during regular business hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Monetary donations are also welcome and are used to purchase items to complete the bags, as well as to buy fresh fruit for the bags. Checks can be written to GRADD and mailed to 300 GRADD Way, Owensboro, KY 42301 or placed in the mail drop box in front of the GRADD building. Be sure to designate that the donation is for Silver Bells in the memo line and/or on the envelope.
