Two people — at least one with critical injuries — have been transported to the hospital after an accident involving five vehicles Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 231 and Old Hartford Road, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say alcohol is possibly a factor in the collision.
According to a release, a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling southbound on U.S. 231 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2015 Peterbilt semi-truck. The front left tire of the Suburban came off and struck a northbound 2010 Nissan Altima and 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. The Suburban continued southbound in the northbound lane, where it struck a 2011 Ford Fusion head-on.
According to DCSO, the female driver of the Suburban was transported by AMR Ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in critical condition, while the female driver of the Fusion was transported to OHRH in serious condition. The male driver of the Peterbilt, the female driver and male passenger of the Altima, and the male driver of the Silverado all refused medical transport.
The DCSO accident reconstruction team responded to the scene and the investigation will continue. Kentucky State Police and the Masonville and Daviess County fire departments also responded.
