An 18-year-old Owensboro man is being charged with trafficking fentanyl and tampering with evidence after police allege he was found with multiple bags of M-30 pills during an incident in McLean County.
Records show that Kyreon Whitley was arrested just before 3 a.m. Tuesday by the Henderson Police Department.
According to a citation, Whitley was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop in McLean County. Police reported that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle.
According to the citation, officers were advised that Whitley had a warrant outside of the county for failure to appear. Police reported that Whitley was then detained and that a search of the vehicle led to officers finding a half-smoked marijuana blunt in the passenger seat and a backpack containing two Glock handguns in the passenger floorboard.
As Whitely was being transported to jail, he was given a warning about having anything that would be considered contraband, according to the citation.
According to HPD, upon arriving at the jail a search was conducted on the officer’s backseat “in which there was a large baggie of M-30 (fentanyl) pills that (Whitley) stuffed between the seat cushions in (the officer’s) back seat in an attempt to conceal said baggie.”
According to the citation, Whitley was searched once inside the jail and was found with a small bag of marijuana tucked inside of his waistband along with more M-30 pills “under his genitals.”
Whitley is currently lodged in the Christian County Detention Center on charges of trafficking fentanyl, possession of marijuana, first-degree promoting contraband, and tampering with physical evidence.
