OPD arrests juvenile in relation to OHS threatening

Update: 6:00 p.m. – A juvenile was arrested in relation to the threat that occurred at Owensboro High School Friday afternoon, according to Owensboro Police Department. The juvenile is facing Terroristic Threatening, 2nd degree and is being held at Campbell County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.

OPD states that the juvenile has also previously been charged with the following:

  • Assault 4th Degree (Domestic Violence) Minor Injury (2 counts)
  • Assault 4th Degree (Minor Injury)
  • Disorderly Conduct (2nd Degree)

When OPD arrived on the scene Friday afternoon, they began an investigation and were able to identify the student while also safely evacuating the school building.

Owensboro Public Schools officials confirm Owensboro High School is on lockdown following a threat that was written on a bathroom wall Friday. Jared Revlett, Public Information Officer for OPS, said that there is no immediate danger to the students.

Owensboro Police Department is currently on the scene.

Revlett provided the following statement:

“Owensboro High School is currently under a lockdown due to a threat found written on a bathroom wall. There is no immediate danger to students and the Owensboro Police Department is assisting with strategic release of students momentarily. Bus riders may be delayed getting home. All students and staff are safe. The lockdown was put in place out of an abundance of caution.”

Revlett further stated that OPD has begun a release that will take time to get students out. He stated that this could lead to delays in picking up or dismissal of students and staff.
