Pickin’ for a Cause, a community awareness event to educate the public about the seriousness of eating disorders, returns to Owensboro in September. The event includes a silent auction, dinner, and live music.

Pickin’ for a Cause: Keeping Aubrey’s Song Alive! will be held September 21 at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

The event benefits Aubrey’s Song Foundation for Eating Disorders, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, whose mission is to raise awareness about eating disorders, promote prevention and positive body image, and support, guide and refer patients and families to local and out of state treatment options for recovery. This year, the event will include a social hour with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and live music from musicians Lucy & Emmie, Toy Heart, and regionally and nationally recognized bluegrass group Kentucky Shine.

All proceeds from this event will help support service programs such as youth prevention programs like Positive Body Image presentations in elementary, middle, and high schools, The Body Project after-school program and patient/family services such as continual referral support and advocacy, caregiver and patient recovery support.

Aubrey’s Song’s programs are critical to our community for those struggling with this mental health disorder.

  • 900,000 Kentuckians suffer from an eating disorder; 29,800+ are children.
  • 1 person dies every 52 minutes from an eating disorder.
  • Kentucky has no inpatient or residential treatment facilities, thus making prevention and early intervention the key to lowering the risks of the onset and diagnosis of eating disorders.

Tickets are $50; tables of eight are $400. Tickets and tables may be purchased at www.AubreysSong.org.
