The Bluegrass Music Academy is kicking off its fall music and clogging lessons at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Music classes begin September 5, and each session is 45 minutes long. The beginning age for classes is 8 years old for fiddle, guitar, and mandolin, and 12 years old for banjo. Final class placement will be at the discretion of the instructor.

The registration fee is $80 for the entire fall semester. To register or for more information on the music classes, click here.

“During Covid, God made it perfectly clear to me that he has given us all a talent and gifts to share to help heal others. Mine is music, and I intend to listen to his call and use my gift of performance, teaching, and leading others to make a difference and help people. There are so many people that want to play music, want to play with others, and want to help others, they just need some help getting started,” said Randy Lanham, BMA Education Director.

Clogging lessons begin September 19. Barry Lanham, noted clogging performer and instructor, is offering beginner, beginner plus, and intermediate clogging classes.

Lanham’s clogging classes offer dancing instruction structured for different levels of expertise from novice to advanced.  Covering many facets of traditional Appalachian dancing, participants learn the basics of clogging. In addition, classes are customized to include full family participation from toddlers to senior citizens, and dancers of all skill levels are welcome during the 6-week session. Class sizes are limited.

The fee for the entire session of classes is $40 per student. To register or for more information on the music classes (including descriptions and dates), click here.

“Owensboro has so many very talented music artists and we want to give them an outlet. Science proves that listening to music alone helps mental health, learning to play helps even more, performing and meeting others helps even more,” Hannah Koller said in a release.
