A Wednesday night shooting incident near Kentucky Wesleyan College sent a male juvenile to the hospital, according to the Owensboro Police Department. OPD said the victim “has refused to cooperate,” though the investigation is ongoing.
According to a release, officers responded to the 700 block of Scherm Road in reference to a shooting that occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. Evans said one juvenile male was transported to the ER with “an injury related to the shooting.”
“Officers arrived on the scene and began to establish a perimeter,” the release reads. “Officers observed evidence and damage to properties around the apartments indicating a shooting had occurred. A short time later a male juvenile arrived at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound that is believed to be non-life-threatening.”
According to OPD, “Detectives attempted to interview the injured male juvenile while at the hospital, however, he refused to cooperate with the investigation and declined to provide any information as to where or how he was wounded. Current information indicates the male juvenile was potentially in the area of the shooting to engage in criminal activity and while in the area exchanged gunfire with other individuals.”
The Criminal Investigations Division and Evidence Collection Unit responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
