
Martha E. Greer 94, of Calhoun, Kentucky, formerly of Louisville passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at her home in Calhoun. Martha Ellen Thompson Greer, known affectionately as Martha, was born on July 20, 1929, in Island, Kentucky to the late Victor and Virginia Eaton Thompson and was married to J.T. Greer December 3, 1947. Their union was a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Throughout her life, Martha found fulfillment in her role as a homemaker. She created a welcoming and loving environment for her family and friends, always ensuring that anyone who crossed her threshold felt like home. Her cooking was legendary within the family, with her dishes being the highlight of many family gatherings.
Martha was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Louisville. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing her with comfort and guidance throughout her years. She took great pleasure in the fellowship of her church community and the spiritual fulfillment it provided her.
In her leisure time, Martha enjoyed working on her puzzle books. The challenges they presented were a source of great enjoyment for her, and she looked forward to her daily puzzle time. Additionally, Martha deeply appreciated the companionship of her caregivers, Phyllis, Brittany, and Lilly. Their kind and compassionate care brought comfort and companionship to her final years.
Martha’s life was a tapestry of love, faith, and family. Her memory will be cherished by those who survive her and those who were touched by her kindness and warmth. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, J.T. Greer, who died October 25, 2021; by an infant son; and by a great grandson, Jaxson Shain.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Kelly (Pat) and Phyllis Greer McGlasson; four grandchildren, Shawn Kelly (Chelcey), Brittany McGlasson, Nicholas Kelly, and Ashley Kelly; 8 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Martha’s family from 11:30 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Musters in Calhoun.
