The Chamber Young Professionals group has kicked off its third annual costume drive for children needing outfits this Halloween. Organizers say they hope to have the largest donation ever this year.
CYP will be collecting new or gently used costumes through October 25 to distribute to elementary schools across Owensboro-Daviess County.
Organizer Jake Boswell said since the costumes are for Kindergarten through 5th-grade students, CYP is looking for age-appropriate costumes such as superheroes and Disney princesses.
“We all remember our favorite Halloween costume as a kid. We hope the donations this year provide that for elementary students in both OPS and DCPS. It’s so important for kids to feel included and to have positive experiences in their communities,” Boswell said.
CYP has partnered with the schools’ Family Resource Youth Service Centers, which will actually distribute the costumes.
Boswell noted CYP collected 100 costumes last year, and they look forward to extending that record for the third year.
“We think based on the generosity of the community and even more drop-off locations this year, we can help in a bigger way,” Boswell said.
Donations can be dropped off at the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce (200 East 3rd Street), all Independence Bank locations, BHG Realty (3424 Frederica Street), Terry’s Tees (1359 East 4th Street), Greater Owensboro Realty Co. (1035 Frederica Street), and All Blessing Inc. (920 Frederica Street #105) during business hours. Representatives from the organizations will take the costumes to the appropriate schools.
