Owensboro’s 13th Annual Faith Fest kicks off Friday. The 2.5-week festival is designed to bring people of all religions together to celebrate and learn about the different faith communities in Owensboro.
Organizers said there will be some events geared toward “first-timers who just want to enjoy a new experience” while more “advanced opportunities” include more in-depth dialogue and cooperation.
Faith Fest events will include educational and skill-building opportunities, fellowship times, and prayer services in several traditions.
The Rev. Dr. Claudia A. Ramisch is the Owensboro-Daviess County Ministerial Association (ODCMA) and spearheads planning for the event. She said many Owensboro area faith communities, the ODCMA, and the Owensboro Interfaith Center are sponsors for this year’s Faith Fest.
“We talk about Faith Fest as an opportunity to meet and learn about the faith communities of our area,” Ramisch said. “We are proud of the efforts the faith community makes to keep people informed and connected. At their 69th Annual Assembly, the Kentucky Council of Churches recognized ODCMA for its programs and events — especially Faith Fest — bringing people of different faiths together in understanding and friendship.”
Faith Fest kicks off this Friday at 1:30 p.m. when the local Islamic Center (3131 Alvey Park Drive) will host a public Jummah (Friday prayers with sermon) on 3 Nov @ 1:30. The local synagogue will host a public Torah study at 6:30 p.m. on November 9.
The celebrations will conclude with the 16th Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service hosted by the Owensboro Interfaith Center at 2:30 p.m. on November 19 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Owensboro (corner of Cedar Street and Parrish Avenue). Canned goods will be collected for the HELP Office at this service.
