Riney Hancock CPAs has been doing business in Owensboro for 50 years. With more than 35 accountants in their Owensboro and Evansville locations, President Adam Hancock said the success is due to community support.
Founded in 1973, the original 10 shareholders came together to build client relationships and service teams with a successful culture based on giving back to the community. Now, half a century later, Hancock said they still stay true to their mission of being their clients’ most trusted and valued financial advisors.
“Without this community supporting us, we don’t have 50 years. Through our accomplishments as far as service and everything like that, they have supported us and continue to support us, and we hope that carries on well into the future,” Hancock said.
To ring in the anniversary, the firm has celebrated all year with various events throughout the community, such as the Cookout for Chemo Buddies which raised $4,000. The company also updated some of its facilities and introduced a new layout to its website and logo.
Hancock noted that the staff has been at the forefront of continuing the legacy started by the founders.
“We’ve been very fortunate enough to hire some rock stars, to be honest, and we’re just trying to keep them happy. We’ve been lucky enough to employ people that see what we’re trying to do and believe in that process,” he said.
When his father Joseph Hancock stepped away from the president role after almost 30 years, Adam stepped in to lead. When Joseph cleaned out his office, he left one item for Adam to keep as a reminder for the future: a sailing ship.
“He always said, ‘When you’re making decisions, always look at that and see if you think you’re sailing the right direction.’ I think that’s part of it; we are on the right path,” Hancock said.
As they continue to grow, Hancock said the company has its sights on getting large service providers in their communities.
He said, “We really do try to use many local [organizations] and try to look at it from a global perspective and how we can use entities that will benefit our communities.”
