About 39.3% of eligible voters in Daviess County cast a ballot on Tuesday, down from the 46.5% who turned out in the 2019 General Election.
According to the Kentucky Secretary of State, there are 77,781 registered voters in Daviess County. Of those, just 30,546 cast a ballot. Non-presidential elections years typically have lower voter turnout, but with Kentucky’s gubernatorial race being so high-profile — even on the national stage — it was unclear how many voters would turn out.
“I didn’t really know what to expect,” said Daviess County Clerk Leslie McCarty. “I didn’t think we’d have all 77,000 voters or anything, but I didn’t know if we’d hit 40%.”
The 2019 election was also a non-presidential year but still drew a slightly higher turnout when then-Attorney General Andy Beshear ran against then-Governor Matt Bevin.
According to the Secretary of State’s data, 33,958 of the 73,091 registered voters in Daviess County cast a ballot.
That was also when Daviess County voters still had to go to their designated precinct; there were 56 spread across the county. This year, voters could visit any of 14 voting centers — plus there were three days of no-excuse early voting.
Early voting at the Owensboro SportsCenter accounted for 6,833 ballots — about 22% — of the total votes cast in Daviess County this year.
A demographic breakdown of the data is expected to be made available at a later date.
