The Owensboro Museum of Science and History will host its annual Noon Year’s Eve Celebration from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 30. The event includes the famed 2,000-balloon drop, tunes from DJ Professor G, and more.

There are opportunities for attendees to meet their favorite costumed characters thanks to Carolyn Greer and the Rose Curtain Players. Magician Marcus Duke will also be on hand to entertain guests with several interactive tricks.

“We’re proud of the fact that we have an event that has become part of the everyday life for our families and the community,” Olson said. “It makes blowing up all of those balloons worth it, and the excitement when everybody starts to count down, it’s one of my favorite parts of the year.”

Other notable attractions include face painting, crafts, and a crowd favorite: resolution rocks.

Olson said the inspiration for the event stems from the museum’s desire to offer a family-friendly New Year’s celebration where parents don’t have to keep their children up until midnight.

“It gives everybody a chance to kind of kick off the New Year in a fun and safe way,” she said.

The cost to attend is $5, which includes entry to the museum. U.S. Bank is this year’s title sponsor.
