OPD: Nearly 200 firearms, variety of illicit drugs seized in 2023

The Owensboro Police Department reported seizing almost 200 firearms and several amounts of illicit drugs throughout 2023, Wednesday morning.

OPD Public Information Office Dylan Evans said that the agency recovered the following:

  • 183 firearms
  • 36 pounds of Methamphetamine
  • 98,000 Fentanyl pills
  • over 2.4 pounds of Cocaine
  • over 1.5 pounds of Heroin
  • Approximately 300 Ecstasy pills

In addition to all the seizures, they report 22 federal indictments stemming from ongoing drug and firearm investigations.

“These investigations and the resulting seizures only reflect a portion of what officers do on a daily basis. The Officers and Detectives of the Owensboro Police Department, in collaboration with our Federal partners, are committed to addressing the challenges posed by drug addiction, violence, and the underlying crimes that are rooted in substance abuse,” Evans said.
