A traffic stop led to two Whitesville residents being arrested on meth trafficking charges, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

According to DCSO, at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday deputies stopped a vehicle being operated by Michel Paul Rusher, 43, and passenger Janice Marie Bryant, 38, both of Whitesville, at Main Street and Oak Street for a traffic violation.

“During the traffic stop, a DCSO K-9 alerted on the vehicle indicating the presence of illegal narcotics. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered while searching the vehicle and the DCSO Special Investigations Unit were notified and responded to the scene,” according to the release.

As part of the ensuing investigation, a search warrant was secured and executed on Rusher’s and Bryant’s residence in the 10500 block of Lafayette Street, according to DCSO.

“Evidence seized from the residence indicated an ongoing drug trafficking operation and included individually wrapped quantities of suspected methamphetamine, scales, pipes with meth residue, marijuana, and a quantity of U.S. currency,” the release reads.

Rusher and Bryant were both charged and lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center.

Both were charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (first offense, > or = 2 grams of meth), possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia — buy/possess. Bryant was also charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense, meth).
